This research examines the phenomenon of fishermen's children dropping out of school in the southern coastal area of Jember Regency, East Java, from the perspective of cultural anthropology. The study aims to uncover the social, economic and cultural factors that influence the high dropout rate among fisher children, as well as its impact on the dynamics of coastal communities. Using ethnographic methods, the study collected data through participant observation, in-depth interviews and document analysis over a period of one year. The main findings show that economic factors, such as poverty and the need to help the family economy, are the dominant causes of school dropout. However, cultural factors such as the community's perception of education, the tradition of fishing from an early age, and the lack of highly educated role models also play a significant role. This study also reveals the impact of dropping out of school on the sustainability of the fishing profession, social mobility, and community adaptation patterns to environmental and economic changes. The results of this study provide new insights into the complexity of education issues in coastal communities and highlight the importance of a holistic approach in formulating education policies that are sensitive to the local socio-cultural context. The implications of this study can serve as a foundation for the development of more effective intervention programmes to increase school participation and retention among fisher children, and promote sustainable development.
Adzkiyak Adzkiyak

https://jurnal.unipar.ac.id/index.php/ej/article/view/1927

Discrimination between women and men sometimes still occurs in the educational environment. The Al-Quran and Hadith state that a pious human being is the most noble, Allah does not look at a person's face, wealth or physical appearance, but rather judges the heart and deeds. Gender equality is the nature of humanity, men and women have their respective roles in continuing their lives, especially rights, equality, justice and freedom. Men and women play equal roles in the domestic and public spheres. The aim of the research is to examine in depth the implementation and management of the concept of gender equality in Islamic education in schools. The research method used was a literature review using primary sources by KH Husein Muhammad with the title Islam, a women-friendly religion, using an interpretative approach, namely an effort to seek clarity or agreement about social or cultural events based on the perspective and experience of the person being studied. The research results show that there is management between the concept of gender equality and Islamic education. Islamic education must be fair based on the principles of human rights (HAM) and democracy. The fair category provides equal opportunities to obtain knowledge/learning for men and women. Democracy provides freedom of responsibility and dignity for one's choices. Its implementation in formal schools no longer differentiates between male and female students in providing/receiving materials, facilities and learning opportunities, they have the same opportunities to learn and gain knowledge. So that the Islamic education curriculum is implemented and management based on gender justice.
Dewi Masyitoh Denok Mugi Hidayanti

https://jurnal.unipar.ac.id/index.php/ej/article/view/1953

This study is motivated by the low motivation and conceptual understanding among the eighth-grade students at UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan. The existing teaching methods, which do not address the students' needs or sufficiently motivate them, have led to a poor grasp of mathematical concepts, particularly in exponentiation. The "Teaching at the Right Level" (TaRL) approach, which is not confined to grade levels, can accommodate various student characteristics and enhance both motivation and conceptual understanding. Conducted over two cycles, this study aims to improve motivation and understanding of exponentiation concepts. Motivation data were collected through questionnaires, while understanding of the concepts was assessed via written tests, with both types of data analyzed quantitatively. The findings reveal an increase in motivation from 70.95% in Cycle I to 77.9% in Cycle II, and an improvement in understanding of exponentiation concepts from 80.63% in Cycle I to 86.9% in Cycle II.
Renna LaniaRatna SorayaCholizah Nasution

This research aims to improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts through the application of the Problem Based Learning learning model which is integrated with the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach and the TaRL (Teaching at The Right Level) approach. This research is a classroom action research with the subject of students in class IX-7 UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan for the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 29 students. The research method used is PTK (Classroom Action Research) which in this case occurs in two cycles, with cycle I consisting of 1 meeting and cycle II consisting of 1 meeting. Each cycle is carried out with a focus on learning models and the ability to understand mathematical concepts. Based on the results obtained from the second cycle, there was an increase compared to the first cycle with the difference in the highest score in the first cycle being 9 students and in the second cycle being 16 students, the average score was 8 students while in the second cycle there were 10 students and The lowest score experienced a decrease, namely in cycle I there were 12 students while in cycle II there were 3 students. So the difference in the percentage of high scores in cycle I and cycle II is 27%. This happened by making improvement efforts by integrating the CRT approach and the TaRL approach which resulted in improvements in the observation aspect.
Teresia Br PakpahanRosliana SiregarAmalia Ramli

https://jurnal.unipar.ac.id/index.php/ej/article/view/1956

Mathematics education at SMA Negeri 2 Medan faces significant challenges due to the low learning outcomes of students, particularly in exponent material. This issue is influenced by students' low interest in mathematics, which is often perceived as difficult and unengaging. Teachers at the school also struggle to implement teaching methods that actively engage students in the learning process. These challenges highlight the need for innovation in teaching methods, such as implementing digital technology-based formative assessments. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using Quizizz-based formative assessment to improve the mathematics learning outcomes of class X.3 students on exponent material. The study employs Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and observations and analyzed using gain scores to measure improvements between cycles. The results show that using Quizizz-based formative assessment significantly enhanced students' learning outcomes, with average scores increasing from 74.18 in Cycle I to 89.40 in Cycle II, and a gain score of 0.36 indicating moderate improvement. Additionally, the use of Quizizz improved student participation and motivation. Thus, Quizizz-based formative assessment is proven to be effective in enhancing mathematics learning outcomes and is recommended for application in other classrooms as an innovative teaching strategy.
Apricelly Gresya Lase
